HICKSVILLE -- Fred W. Tonneas, 87, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Hickory Creek at Hicksville, Hicksville, Ohio.
He was born on October 22, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Fred Sr. and Beaulah (Welch) Tonneas. Fred was a 1944 graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in St. Louis. He then served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. On November 20, 1954, he was united in marriage to Ruth Laub, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2003. Fred was retired from International Harvester, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was very involved with the Hicksville Little League Baseball Association, serving as president, coach and umpire.
Fred is survived by two daughters, Gail (Bruce) Stone of Englewood, Ohio, Carol (Tim) Armitage of Hicksville; two sons, Steve (Yvonne) Tonneas of Hicksville, Bryan (Katrina) Tonneas of Bryan, Ohio; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, James B. (Betty) Tonneas of St. Louis, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Fred III and David and two grandsons, Fred IV and Shane.
Funeral services for Fred will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville.
