ARCHBOLD -- Mary L. Beck, 85, of Archbold, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold where she lived the last year. 

She was born January 18, 1929, near Stryker, to the late Myron and Herma (Short) Schmucker. Mary graduated valedictorian from Archbold High School in 1947, and began work as a secretary at Archbold High School. Her summers were spent serving as secretary at Little Eden Camp in northern Michigan.  She married Vincent S. Beck on December 31, 1949, and he preceded her in death on December 29, 2003. They lived in Archbold their entire lifetime together, spending summers in northern Michigan and winters in Florida in later years.

Mary worked as secretary in Vincent's insurance business for several years and an assistant librarian at the McLaughlin Memorial Library from 1967, retiring in 1985. She loved reading, crocheting, playing piano and playing games with her friends and grandchildren. She was an active member of Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold.

She was a faithful wife to Vincent and loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her two sons, Kirk (Sally) Beck and Bill (Kathy) Beck, both of Archbold; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice (Ruth) Schmucker and Walter (Vera) Schmucker; and three sisters, Carol Jean (Virgil) Eddy, Virgie Wyse and Anna Rose Fuentes.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Wyse and Bessie King.

Memorial services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church, following a private burial service at Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call at Zion Mennonite Church from 3-8 p.m. Saturday. Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.
