COLON, Mich. -- F. Eugene Bagley, 80, of Colon, Michigan, and formerly of Van Wert, passed away at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
He was born on April 30, 1933, in Van Wert, the son of the late Floyd Everett Bagley and Helen M. (Bricker) Bagley, who survives in Van Wert. On May 18, 1952, he married Joanne Edwards at the Trinity EUB Church, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons and their wives, David E. (Susan) Bagley of Antwerp, Stephen K. (Nina) Bagley of Columbus, and Ric R. (Debra) Bagley of Elida, Ohio; five grandchildren, Trisha (James) Fuller, Ryan (Kayla) Bagley, Ashley (Calvin) Bissell, Justin Bagley and Kelsey Bagley; seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Camden and Brayden Fuller, Briley, Hudsyn and Carter Bagley, and Conley Bissell; two brothers, James D. (Sara) Bagley of Sarasota, Fla., and Ronald R. (Linda) Bagley of Van Wert; and three sisters, J. Coleen (Ray) Etzler of Van Wert, Diane (Larry) Webb of Van Wert, and Janell (Paul Leslie) Boroff of Chandler, Ariz.
He had served as mayor of Van Wert from 1992-99, and on the city council for 22 years, from 1970-92. He retired from Federal Mogul in Van Wert and also farmed. He was a member of Colon United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Van Wert Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, Men's Garden Club, and Willow Bend Country Club.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Van Wert, with Pastor Clark W. Williman officiating. Calling hours are Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the West Michigan Cancer Center in Kalamazoo, Mich.
