Harold William Yagel, 73, of Defiance, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
He was born on June 12, 1940, to Hubert and Laverne (Bowman) Yagel in Bryan, Ohio. On January 15, 1967, he married Sharon "Sherry" (Jones) Yagel. Harold was a member of Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren. He was a 1958 graduate of North Central High School. Harold worked at ITT Automotive (Fulton Tubing). He loved trains and woodworking and was a huge fan of John Wayne aka "The Duke," but Harold enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his beloved grandsons.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, "Sherry"; sons, Robert Yagel of Houston, Texas, and Sgt. Major Douglas (Erino) Yagel of Okinawa, Japan; brother, Marvin (Donna Jean) Yagel of Napoleon, Ohio; sister, Caroline Rohrbaugh of Defiance, Ohio; grandsons, Christopher and John of Japan; favorite aunt, Jackie Johnson of Mesa, Ariz.; and loyal dog, Pepper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Robert Bowman; brother-in-law, Chauncy Rohrbaugh; and his granddog, Shaddy.
Per Harold's request, there will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held with Rev. Benjamin Polzin officiating.
