Jose M. Moreno, 81, of Defiance, passed away Friday afternoon, January 31, 2014, at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
He was born December 25, 1933, in Guadalajara, Mexico, the son of Felipe and Maria Moreno. He married Maria Fuentes on March 30, 1952, and she preceded him in death on September 30, 1991. He then married Gloria Valle on February 16, 1993. A resident of the Defiance/Archbold area, he worked at General Motors and was a mason by trade. In his early years he worked at Yoder & Frey Sales, Challenge Cook and Wauseon Foundry. He enjoyed his family and friends, cooking ribs on the grill, taking road trips, playing his guitar and working hard.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; four children, Esther (Sonny) Rodriquez, Joe (Lucy) Moreno, Ana (Mike) Dailey, and Marty Miller; stepchildren, Ninfa (Bruce) Stocking, Nina (Alfred J.) Montez, Robert (Lisa) Valle, and Isaac Valle; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren; brothers, Ignacio, Ricardo and Javier Moreno; and sister, Mercedes Fuentes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felipe and Amelia; his first wife, Maria; brother, Antonio Moreno; and sister, Lupe Delgado.
Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Turning Point Pentecostal Church, near Archbold, with Pastor Jason Clutter officiating. Interment will follow in the Archbold Cemetery. Friends may call at Short Funeral Home in Archbold from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. www.ShortFuneralHome.com.
