Donald E. Karr (Pork) passed away Thursday morning, January 30, 2014. He was born August 14, 1927, to the late Ralph and Irene (Biker) Karr. On August 29, 1948, he married Barbara Kimberly, who passed away September 19, 1990. He then married Bonnie Weible on September 19, 1997, who survives.
He is also survived by his three children, Jeffrey (Kris) Karr, Jane (Jeff) Leonard, and Julie (Joe) Berger, four grandchildren, Megan Leonard, Molly Hale, and Ryan and Heather Berger, and one great-grandchild, Cameron Berger. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Durwood Karr.
Don served in the United States Army, assigned to the Engineer Center at Fort Belvoir, VA, from February 1946 through March 1947, attaining the rank of corporal. After receiving an honorable discharge, he worked at several local businesses while obtaining a bachelors' in business administration from Defiance College.
He worked at General Motors for 34 years, retiring in 1987 to enjoy playing golf, traveling with his wife, and also worked at Thomas Keller Trucking as a sales manager. He held a life membership in Elks Lodge 147, serving as an officer and a trustee. Don was also a member of Eagles 372, VFW 3360 and Masonic Lodge 564. He was also a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-8 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance with an Elks memorial service at 6:45 p.m., and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev Michael Donnally officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery with VFW 3360 conducting military graveside rites.
