Margene Ankney

Margene M. Ankney, 86, of Defiance, passed away on January 25, 2014, at the Twin Rivers Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Defiance.

She was born on December 15, 1927, to Benjamin and Bertha (Ellerbrock) Leopold in Putnam County, Ohio. Margene worked as a nurse's aide for various area hospitals. On August 3, 1948, she married James Ankney, who preceded her in death on August 20, 2005.

She was a life member of the Defiance VFW Ladies Auxiliary and loved to bowl.

Margene is survived by her son, James (Brenda) Ankney of Defiance; daughter, Karen Ankney of Defiance; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Winfred Leopold of Duluth, Minn.; sisters, Juanita Reiman of Defiance and Mary Lou Herder of Defiance.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Ankney; brothers, Hank Leopold and Ed Leopold; sister, Lucinda McFeeters.

Visitation will be held at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating. Entombment will take place in Riverview Memory Gardens, rural Defiance.
