STRYKER -- Michael G. Jorkos, 25, of Stryker, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014, in Columbus, Ohio.

He was born on October 20, 1988, to George Jr. and Connie (Hammersmith) Jorkos at Toledo, Ohio. Michael served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of life member of VFW Post 3360 and St. John Catholic Church, and a 2011-12 U.S. Army veteran serving a combat tour of duty in Afghanistan as an infantryman earning the Army Commendation Medal. Michael was currently serving in the Ohio Army National Guard COA1-148th-INRGT.

Michael is survived by his father and stepmother, George Jr. and Michelle Jorkos of Stryker, Ohio; mother, Connie Jorkos of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Lindsay Jorkos of Denver, Colo., and Megan Jorkos of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; girlfriend, Carly Kasberg of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; stepsister, Amber Morris of Toledo, Ohio; two stepbrothers, Joey Bodenbender of Camp Pendelton, Calif., and Brad Bodenbender of Bryan, Ohio; grandfather, George Jorkos Sr. of Defiance, Ohio; and grandmother, Delores Jean Jorkos of Defiance, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Donald and Janice Hammersmith; and an uncle, Ronald Louis Jorkos.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014, from 2-8 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home Inc., Defiance, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Father Todd Dominique officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery's veterans' section.
