MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. -- Gerald W. Dalton, 74, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014, in Merritt Island, Fla.

Born in Defiance, Ohio, Gerald was a diesel mechanic for American Truck Transport for 17 years before working until retirement at Freightliner. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church. Gerald enjoyed building model cars and watching racing.

Surviving are his fiancée, Kathleen Dougan of Florida; daughters, Elizabeth (Steve Armbruster) Dalton of Napoleon, Ohio, and Tracy Dalton of Bryan, Ohio; son, Jeff Dalton of New Mexico; stepson, Jeff (Pat) Starnes of Alabama; stepdaughters, Cheryl Schilt of Sherwood, Ohio, Patricia (Del) Ankney of Defiance, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren; brother, Greg (Debby) Dalton of Bryan, Ohio; and sister, Maryann Bowman of Paulding, Ohio.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Anna Dalton; wife, Willa Faye Dalton; and brother, James A. Dalton Jr.

Service is at 10 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014, at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Ind., with calling one hour prior, and Rev. David Mitchell officiating. Calling at the funeral home is Thursday, January 23, 2014, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Entombment will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, Ohio.
