E. Elaine Ramus, 92, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee, Ohio.

She was born on July 5, 1921, to Frederick and Edna (Booher) Winkler in Defiance. On October 10, 1940, Elaine married Harvey Maxwell Ramus, and he passed away on January 19, 2005.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she held various offices and belonged to several of its organizations. She was secretary, clerk and treasurer at Northeastern Local School (Tinora) 27 years, retiring in 1981. She was active in the Jewell American Legion Auxiliary, holding various offices. She loved baking cookies, knitting and crocheting.

Elaine is survived by her sons, Robert (Janet) Ramus of Hicksville, and William (Eileen) Ramus of Westlake; grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Batiato, Stephanie (Tony) Wilhelm, Michael (Sarah M.) Ramus and Sarah E. Ramus; and great-grandchildren, Bryson, Peyton and Kyle Batiato, Ethan, Gavin and Isaac Wilhelm.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Richard, Robert, Paul, and William Winkler.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, at the funeral home, with Rev. Joe Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
