NAPOLEON -- Donald A. Schnitkey, 83, of Napoleon, Ohio, died Monday, January 20, 2014, at the Lutheran Home in Napoleon.
He was born January 2, 1931, in Ridgeville Township, Ohio, to the late August and Marie (Schweinhagen) Schnitkey. On May 12, 1957, he married Marie Elling in Napoleon, Ohio. He was a lifelong farmer and worked part time as a driver for Nickels Bakery in Napoleon and as a guard for Lugbill Bros. in Archbold. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker, where he was a church trustee, deacon and youth counselor.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; sons, Gary (Bobbie) Schnitkey, Champagne, Ill., and Mike (Stephanie) Schnitkey, Ridgeville Corners; grandchildren, Diane, Lauren, Kaity, Kara and Kaleb; brother, Franklin (Juanita) Schnitkey, Archbold, Ohio; sister, Bernice Elling, Napoleon; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Elling, Napoleon.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker, corner of Ohio's 6 and 66. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and 10-11 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker.
