Martha M. Wagner, 94, of Defiance, passed away on January 19, 2014, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 11, 1919, to Edward and Alfretta (March) Kunesh in Defiance, Ohio. On May 3, 1939, she married Cletus J. Wagner, and he died on September 17, 2008. Martha spent most of her life as a homemaker and farm wife, tending to the things that needed to be done. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its Altar Society, and also helped with the K of C Fish fry. She was also one of the Gray Ladies at the Henry County Hospital. Martha also enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, decorating cakes, and was an avid gardener. She was known for her beautiful flower garden on the ridge.
Martha is survived by her loving sons, John (Mary) Wagner of Defiance, Joe (Phyllis) Wagner of Defiance, Jerry (Sandy) Wagner of Defiance; daughters, Margie (Richard) Boff of Defiance and Mary Kay (Patrick) Imber of Defiance; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Brenda Wagner of Defiance; sisters, Donelda Royal of Defiance, and Arlene Iler of Defiance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cletus J. Wagner; son, Michael "Main" Wagner; brother, Virgil Kunesh; sisters, Inez Giesige, Madonna Limpach and Rita Batoha; and granddaughter, Lisa Yoder.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Ridge, with Father George Wenzinger officiating. Burial will take place at St. Michael's Catholic Church Cemetery.
