NAPOLEON -- Frederick "Fred" Miller, 88, of Napoleon, Ohio, formerly of McClure, died Thursday, January 16, 2014, at the Lutheran Home of Napoleon.

He was born August 27, 1925, in McClure, Ohio, to the late Otto and Mary O. (Conn) Miller. On March 6, 1949, he married Josephine "Jo" Johnson, and she preceded him in death on July 14, 2013.

Fred served in the Navy during World War II. He was the owner and operator of his own excavating business for over 38 years. He served on the board of directors for several years at Farmers State Bank in McClure. He was a life member of the Roberts-McMillen Legion Post 332 and the Elks Lodge 929.

He is survived by daughters, Joan (Terry) Friess of Napoleon and Jan (Rich) Gephart of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Huber of Napoleon; and brother, Lee (Arlene) Miller of McClure.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeromy Gerken; sisters, Maxine (Carl) Bockelman and Marilyn (LeRoy) Smith; brother, Keith (Darlene) Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, with Pastor Lee Genter officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the McClure American Legion. A private interment will be later at Hockman Cemetery, McClure. Visitation will be held at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
