Joan A. Miller, 80, of Defiance, Ohio, died Tuesday afternoon, December 31, 2013, at the Lutheran Home, Napoleon, Ohio.
She was born February 9, 1933, in Napoleon Township, to the late Eldor and Rufena (Helberg) Norden. On October 8, 1955, she married Victor Miller at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon Township, and they shared over 57 years together before he preceded her in death on July 26, 2013.
Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and dedicated homemaker. She also helped her husband as a former custodian at both the Ridgeville American Legion Hall and the St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was member of St. John Lutheran Church, Freedom Township, and a former member at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon Township, where she had been active as a Sunday school teacher and member of the Women of the Church. She was a member of Ward L. Adams American Legion Post 454 Auxiliary, Ridgeville Corners, and the Orphan Grain Train. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Vicki (Carlos) Grieser, Sandy (Dave) Meyer, Steven Miller, Douglas Miller, Rodney Miller; grandchildren, Shain Meyer, Kylee (Rex) Miller, Brandi (Phil) Baden; great-grandchildren, Ryley and Bryce Miller; sisters, Lois (Bob) Rettig, Dian (Gene) Wendt, Sue Ann (Dave) McColley; brothers, Weldon (Helen) Norden, Ronald (Judy) Norden and Eugene (Lily) Norden.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, with Rev. Stephen Niermann officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at St. John Lutheran Church, Freedom Township. Private graveside services will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Napoleon Township. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
