HICKSVILLE -- Kenneth R. Wellman, 69, Hicksville, died Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Community Health Professionals Defiance Area In-patient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio.
He was born on February 15, 1945, in Grand Rapids, Ohio, the son of the late Ross and Arlene (Gill) Wellman. Ken was a graduate of Grand Rapids High School. He then attended Cincinnati Bible College (Cincinnati Christian University), graduating in 1970 with a bachelor of science degree in Christian Ministry. In 1984, he attended Huntington College, graduating with a master's of divinity.
On December 19, 1964, he was united in marriage with Jill Bostelman and she preceded him in death on October 21, 2011.
Ken was a minister for 40 years, retiring in 2010 after ministering for 25 years at the First Church of Christ in Hicksville, Ohio. He was also minister of the Normanda Christian Church in Tipton, Indiana, and South Milford Church of Christ in South Milford, Indiana. He also served on the board of directors at Lake James Christian Assembly and was a member of the Hicksville Ministerial Association.
Ken is survived by a son, Danny (Debbie) Wellman of Hicksville; two daughters, Julie (Del) Witte of Hicksville and Jenny (Scott) Wood of Mechanicsville, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Al (Bonnie) Wellman of Grand Rapids, Ohio and Jeff (Nancy) Wellman of Perrysburg, Ohio.
Funeral services for Ken will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at First Church of Christ, Hicksville, with Pastors Steve Evans and Jerold Tear officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 2-7 p.m., also at the church. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Ohio.
