BELVIDERE, Ill. -- Former area resident Alan A. Farlee, 81, passed away Dec. 6, 2013, at St. Anthony's Nursing Home, Rock Island, Ill. He had resided in East Moline for the past seven years.
He was born Oct. 9, 1932, the son of the late Ford and Madonna (Stalhut) Farlee, in Wauseon. Alan married Mary Lou McNany on Jan. 12, 1961, in Bryan. She died on Aug. 31, 2000.
Alan attended Zion Church, Belvidere. He was a member of the East Moline VFW and a former member and past commander of the Des Plaines VFW Post 2992. He was a member of the NCHA/FCRV Camping Club and the Turtle Club. His hobbies included model railroading and operating a ham radio. He enjoyed working with his hands, fishing, camping and threshing shows. He was a caring person who could talk to anyone and fix any problem. His children will remember him as being the world's greatest dad.
Surviving are three daughters, Sue (Tom) Hauck, Fort Wayne, Ind., Kerry Havro, Belvidere, and Beth (Michael) McCuen, Poplar Grove, Ill.; two sons, Richard (Diane) Farlee and Kevin (Jan) Farlee, both of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Vonda Hancock, Defiance; and brother, Roger (Karen) Farlee, Defiance.
