HICKSVILLE -- Mary Lou Kemerer Peter, 87, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born on May 15, 1926, in Payne, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Perl) Derck. Mary was a 1944 graduate of Antwerp High School. On June 23, 1945, she was united in marriage to Robert Kemerer, and he preceded her in death on September 4, 1991. On April 26, 1997, she married Kermit Peter, and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2011. Mary was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hicksville, where she was a member of the Alter Rosary Society. She was also a member of the All Together Club.
Mary is survived by two sons, Joseph (Vicki) Kemerer and Thomas (Kathy) Kemerer, all of Hicksville; three daughters, Marabeth ( Henry) Miller and Leesa (Jim) Battershell, all of Hicksville, and Barbara (Richard) Shininger of Defiance, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Beth Hammond and Kathleen Franklin; brother, Steve Derck, all of Antwerp; stepchildren, Phyllis (Claren) Osmun, Patricia Peter and Mary Jo (Craig) Cherry; stepson, Melvin (Peggy) Peter; and a stepdaughter-in-law, Marsha Peter.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael, in 1976; granddaughter, Amy Miller; grandson, Eric Battershell; a brother, Jerry Derck; and a stepson, Charles Peter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hicksville. Visitation will be today from 3-8 p.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.
