ARCHBOLD -- Berneda May Nofziger, 95, of Archbold, passed away December 6, 2013, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Archbold, where she had resided for six years.

She was born on February 15, 1918, the first child of Harry and Sarah (Wyse) Wyse, Archbold. She married Dale A. Nofziger on December 31, 1938, and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1981.

Dale and Berneda spent the first 22 years of their marriage farming and enjoying farm life with their children. Berneda was a loving wife and mother as she worked on the farm raising their children, Larry, Elaine, Nedra, Helen, Lynn and Lonnie. After the family moved to town and just before she turned 50 years old, Berneda attended and graduated from the Buckeye School of Nursing in 1968, a career which she continued until she was 72 years old. She thoroughly loved her work at Fairlawn Haven as a nurse for 22 years and exemplified the heart of a servant.

Berneda always enjoyed having her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for holiday meals and special occasions. She also loved making new friends and never appeared to remain a stranger to anyone she met. Even though she lost numerous loved ones through death and endured hardships in her life, her faith in the Lord remained strong, and she was a positive witness for Christ to all who knew her.

As a youth of 13 years, she received Christ as her Savior and was baptized a Christian. She was a charter member of Zion Mennonite Church, Archbold, where she faithfully participated in activities and attended services. In her younger years, she taught Bible school and Sunday school. She was a member of Lamplighters.

Those who survive are two sons, Larry (Sally) Nofziger of Archbold and Lynn (Maggie) Nofziger, Brunswick; three daughters, Elaine (David) Schnitkey of Archbold, Nedra (Richard) Fredrick of Fayette and Helen (Ron) Leu, Archbold. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a sister, Pauline (Paul) Short; and a brother, Ronald "Sonny" (Shirley) Wyse.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen (Wyse) Kauffman; a grandson, Bradley Nofziger; a son, Lonnie Nofziger; and her husband, Dale A. Nofziger.

Short Funeral Home, Archbold, is in charge of funeral arrangements. Visitation hours are from 1-8 p.m. Monday, December 9, at Zion Mennonite Church, and the memorial service will be held at Zion Mennonite Church on Tuesday, December 10, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Pettisville Cemetery preceding the memorial service.

The family requests that memorials be given to the Gideons International, Fairlawn Haven or the donor's choice. www.ShortFuneralHome.com
