Dolores Retcher

Dolores E. Retcher, 90, of Defiance, passed away on November 30, 2013, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

She was born on May 5, 1923, to Glen and Mabel (Houck) Porter at Defiance, Ohio. She was a housewife, mother of 10 children and a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Dolores loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her amazing cookies, and always having the Lawrence Welk show playing on the TV.

Dolores is survived by her sons, Jerry (Carol) Retcher of Defiance, Ohio, Terry (Mary Ellen) Retcher of Cecil, Ohio, Don (Michelle) Retcher of Defiance, Ohio, Marvin (Lois) Retcher of Defiance, Ohio, and Melvin (Mary) Retcher of Defiance, Ohio; daughters, Cynthia Retcher of Fort Wayne, Ind., Barbara Ratzlaff of Defiance, Ohio, Connie (Mike) Kohart of Oakwood, Ohio, Marsha (Matt) Hackman of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Greda (Jim Ransbottom) Retcher, Fort Wayne, Ind.; 39 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Irvin W. Retcher; mother, Mabel Houck; father, Glen Porter; brothers, Darl, Eugene and Gerald Porter; sister, Helen Shawver; and son-in-law, Bill Ratzlaff.

Visitation will be held today, Friday, December 6, 2013, from 2-8 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home Inc., Defiance, Ohio, and Saturday, December 7, from noon-1 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 1 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, with Rev. Donald Luhring officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
