MELROSE -- Robert L. May, 77, of Melrose, died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Defiance Area In-patient Hospice Center.
He was born September 2, 1936, in Defiance, to the late Carl and Viola (VanVlerah) May.
Surviving are his three sons, Randy (Lynn) May of Georgia, Tim (Cindy) May of Melrose, and Michael (Morgan) May of Tennessee; two stepdaughters, Beth (Jack) Landskroener of Defiance and Amanda (Todd) Pierce of Defiance; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Jared, Holly, Jessy, Jenney, Parker and Berkley; eight stepgrandchildren, Cody, Brock, Briana, Kayla, Ryan, Devon, Aubrey and Briegan; five great-grandchildren, Madison, Chad, Jacob, Amber and Kaleb; a great-great-grandson, Trenit; and a brother, Ken (Leona) May of Defiance.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard May; and a grandson, Brody May.
Robert was a retired maintenance worker from Johns Manville in Defiance after 37 years. He loved to golf, fish, dance and spend time with his grandchildren, who all loved "Papa" dearly.
Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013, at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Oakwood, with Pastor Terry Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Little Auglaize Cemetery, Melrose. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Oakwood, and from 10 a.m. until time of service on Friday.
