Joyce M. Motter, 96, Defiance, Ohio, died on all Saints Day, Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
She was born on Halloween, also her favorite holiday, October 31, 1917, in Defiance County, the daughter of Jay Sr. and Blanche (Mattocks) Grant. In 1938, she married Don C. Motter, who preceded her in death in 2001. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Zion's Lutheran Church, of its Altar Guild, and LLS. She was involved with the Defiance Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop, past member of the Defiance Cancer Society, and past member of the Defiance County United Way. She was also a descendent of the Wright brothers and Ulysses S. Grant.
Surviving are her daughters, Sue (Don) Wright, Springboro, Barbara Motter, Stryker; four grandchildren, Sean, Jennifer, Jonathan (Mary Beth) and Stuart Wright; 10 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Mathys, Collin, Caeden, Emma, Katherine, Franklin, Bryceson, Carson, and Skylar Wright; and one great-great-grandchild, Skye Grant Wright.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Don C. Motter; father, Jay Grant Sr.; mother, Blanche Mattocks; brothers, John, Oren, Jay Jr., Marvin, and Bradford Grant; a sister, Evadna Limbaugh.
Services will be at Zion's Lutheran Church, Defiance, on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Timothy Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Zion's Lutheran Church, Defiance, from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday
