HICKSVILLE -- Rowena B. Holt, 89, currently of Lakeland, Florida, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Arbor Oaks Assisted Living, Lakeland, Fla.
She was born on October 13, 1923, in Hicksville, the daughter of Blaine and Annabelle (Keller) Stewart. Rowena was a 1941 graduate of Hicksville High School. On September 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Holt, and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1981.
Rowena and her husband owned and operated South Shore Grocery at Clear Lake, Indiana. She was actively involved in the Republican Party politics in Defiance County and northwestern Ohio, was a member of the board of elections, Trinity United Methodist Church and Order of the Easter Star in Hicksville. Rowena loved sports and she traveled all over the world with her son, Robb, before his death in 2008.
Rowena is survived by several cousins including Mary Lee (Frank) Scott (Tootie Greutman) and Adella Miller, both of Hicksville, Carolyn Williams of Falls Church, Va., Patty Kirby and Bill Beck; dear friends, Mary Ann Husted, Helen Thornburg of Hicksville, Jon and Nancy Kirkland of Cadiz, Ohio, and Sally Schatz of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, Robb; a son at birth; and her parents.
Funeral services for Rowena will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-4 p.m., with an Eastern Star service at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville.
