Ruth Myers


HICKSVILLE -- Ruth Ellen Myers, 74, Hicksville, died at 9:28 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville, Ohio.

She was born October 23, 1938, in Defiance, to the late Russell A. Myers and Velma (Vogelsong) Myers.

Her mother, Velma Myers; and sister, Lois Ann Myers, survive in Hicksville.

Preceding Ruth in death were her father, Russell; Aunt Lillian (Hollis) Grover and Aunt Pearl (Walter) Haver of Hicksville; also Uncle Alfred (Bernice) Myers of Defiance, Uncle Glenn (Dortha) Myers of Tipp City, Aunt Kathryn (Glen) Wireman of Middletown, Aunt Norma Jean (AJ) Moon (Oberlin) and recent death of cousin Keith Myers (Troy).

Ruth's grandparents were Joe and Edna (Schaumbohm) Myers, Henry and Frieda (Miller) Vogelsong from Defiance and Openlander Road, Mark Center.

Additional surviving cousins are Phyllis (Haver) Schang of Bryan, Thelma (Croner) English of South Carolina; Fred, Linda, Cary Myers of Ohio; and daughters of Norma Jean Moon-Anita, Louise, Mary Kay, Cynthia and Jane.

Ruth remained a kind and gentle soul, with her family always coming first. She was a 1956 HHS graduate and proud member of her close-knit class. She was a Miami University graduate with a B.S. in business education and a master's degree from St. Francis University in Fort Wayne. She taught at Lyons and Evergreen (Fulton County) and Antwerp (Paulding County). She was good at math, an excellent organizer and kept books for her parents at home.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hicksville, and in past years helped serve Rotary dinners there.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013, at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Pastor Timothy Pieper officiating. Visitation will be today from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville.
