Mildred 'Mig' Wire

Mildred "Mig" Virginia Wire, 88, of Defiance, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at GlennPark of Defiance.

She was born on March 12, 1925, to Fred and Viola (Fair) Slough in Defiance. She married Eugene Killion in 1947 and he passed away in 1954. In 1976, Mig married James Wire and he passed away in 2002.

Mig was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and its Wesleyan Circle. She graduated from Sherwood High School and worked at the Compo Corporation as a secretary. Later she worked in the Defiance County auditor's office until retirement. Mig was also an award-winning quilter.

Mig is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Larry) Fillinger of Defiance; son, Thomas (Pamela) Killion of Toledo; grandchildren, Eric (Annabell) Fillinger of Grand Rapids, Mich., Kate Killion of Toledo and Elizabeth Killion of Toledo; sister, Mary Fronk of Defiance; stepgranddaughter, Nancy (Ryan) Spears of Defiance; and stepsons, Keith (Kathy) Wire of Ada, Ohio, Gary (Deb) Wire of Tucson, Ariz., and John (Sylvia) Wire of Napoleon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Eugene Killion; second husband, James Wire; twin sons, Douglas and Steven Killion, in infancy; brothers, Ted, John and Bill Slough; and sisters, Mabel Butler, Bertha Smith and Lelah Clemens.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Donnally officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
