Danny D. Lighthill, 73, of Defiance, Ohio, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
He was born on March 31, 1940, in Ottawa, Ohio, to the late Kenneth and Luella (Bost) Lighthill. On October 24, 1959, he married Bette (Bostelman) Lighthill in Jackson, Michigan. Danny was an iron worker for Local 147 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for over 30 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Adams Ridge.
Danny was an owner, trainer, and driver of harness racing horses. He was a member of the Bavarian Haus, Yankee Motorcycle Club, Florida Flywheelers, various antique tractor and engine clubs in Ohio and Indiana, and played in Bette's Polka Band. He loved pulling his John Deere tractors, and dearly loved his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Bette, sons; Danny (Jane) Lighthill Jr. and James J. Lighthill, both of Defiance; grandsons, Benjamin and Justin Lighthill; brothers, Tom (Irene) Lighthill and Jerry (Marlene) Lighthill, both of Wauseon; sister, Nancy (Jim) Holley of Temperance, Michigan.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Cathy Lighthill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Adams Ridge. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
