Leona M. Frederick, 92, of Defiance, passed away early Thursday morning, August 22, 2013, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
She was born October 18, 1920, in Paulding County, and was the daughter of Hayes and Eva (McMillen) Yenser. Leona married Charles "Fuzz" Frederick in 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1998. Also, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Wilbur, Herald and Emery Yenser; six sisters, Vera Simendinger, Nellie Price, Faye Link, Meril Bennet-Short, Mildred Thompson and Beatrice McLennan; and a granddaughter, Nikki Miller.
Leona is survived by three sons, Norman (Rose) Tadsen of Defiance, Kenneth (Linda) Frederick of Archbold, Michael (Carol Ann) Frederick of Clear Lake, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lila Yenser of Defiance.
She worked at Lords and Cato from 1962-1985, Francliff, Defiance and Frederick Gulf for eight years as a bookkeeper. Leona was an active member of St. John United Church of Christ, with the Women's Guild and Mittawanga. She enjoyed the MNO card club and the Defiance County Senior Center.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 25, 2013, from 2-8 p.m. in the Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services for Leona will be Monday, August 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the St. John United Church of Christ, with Rev. Robert Jencks officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
