RIDGEVILLE CORNERS -- Velma A. Von Deylen, 86, peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice after a brief illness.
She spent some of her last moments, surrounded by her family, the same way she lived the rest of her life, selflessly expressing concern for others and sharing the gifts that God had given to her.
Velma was born on November 4, 1926, in Henry County to the late Albert & Mary (Huner) Rickenberg. On April 6, 1947, she married Arnold Von Deylen at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon Twp. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Corners, where she was a former member of its Women of the Church. She also volunteered for several organizations. She loved to play cards and spend time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold Von Deylen of Ridgeville Corners; children, Dale (Sharon) Von Deylen of Archbold, Terry Von Deylen of West Unity, Sharon (Dave) Hancock of Ridgeville Corners, Deb Durham of Napoleon and Dave (Jane) Von Deylen of Napoleon; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Margaret Sparks of Ceresco, MI.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Mohring.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Corners. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
