Mindred 'Miney' Schaufelberger

HICKSVILLE -- Mindred A. "Miney" Schaufelberger, 88, died Monday, August 5, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville.

Miney was born on December 29, 1924, in Hicksville, the son of the late Albert and Nina (Phillips) Schaufelberger. He was a 1943 graduate of Hicksville High School. On August 26, 1953, he was united in marriage with Simone Willis and she preceded him in death on August 13, 1980.

Miney served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War as a Navy Seebee. He was on many Pacific Islands, including Admiralty Island and Okinawa. Miney was awarded the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and two Stars. He was a self-employed farm machine mechanic. Miney was a member of the American Legion Post 223 in Hicksville.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Schaufelberger of Hicksville; two sons, Mark Schaufelberger of Bluffton, Indiana, and Lee Schaufelberger of Apache Junction, Arizona; a brother, Larry (Alice) Schaufelberger of Van Wert, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a sister and an infant brother.

Funeral services for Miney will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville, with the Hicksville American Legion according military honors.
