Joan Snyder

Joan Snyder, 88, former Defiance resident, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in the Teresian House, Albany, N.Y. She had been a resident there for the past eight months.

She was born November 5, 1924, in Xenia, Ohio, and was the daughter of Ross and Emzie Matthews (nee Long). On January 29, 1944, she married Ray M. Snyder and he preceded her in death on May 23, 2005.

Joan is survived by a son, Ross (Pamela) Snyder of Schenectady, NY; a daughter, Rae Ann Aldenderfer of North Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren, Ross M. (Melissa) Snyder II, Sarah (Stan) Horaczek and Penny Aldenderfer; two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Ian; and a sister, Frances Pickering of Jamestown, Ohio.

She was a 1942 graduate of Xenia Central High School and moved to Defiance in 1967. Joan was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Defiance and worked for many years as a deputy clerk for the Defiance County Municipal Court, retiring in 1990. She and Ray enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Maumee Valley Squares.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013, in Riverside Cemetery, with Rev. Clarence Dinnen officiating.
