COLDWATER, Mich. -- Wanda M. Highland, 89, formerly of Florida, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater, Mich.

Born February 2, 1924, in Defiance, Ohio, she was the daughter of Oscar and Clara Belle (Carpenter) Sanders. She had worked as a nurses' aide at a convalescent home and at Annapolis Hospital in Wayne. Wanda enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and traveling and was a Detroit Tigers fan. She also played in the Gingham Gang Band in Fort Myers, Florida, as well as volunteering there to help elderly by taking their blood pressure.

In 1944, she married her husband, Kenneth, and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Survivors include four sons, Ronald (Donna) Highland of North Carolina, David Highland and Rick Highland, both of Fort Myers, Florida, and Darle Highland of Montgomery; one sister, Brenda Ulum of Brighton; one brother, Donald (Freda) Sanders of Defiance, Ohio; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Robert Sanders.
