Virginia L. Ruyle, 89, of Defiance, died peacefully at her home Monday, June 24, 2013.

She was born March 7, 1924, in Huntington, Ind., to Edward and Dessie (Smith) Snyder. She graduated from Huntington High School in 1942. Virginia married C. Robert Ruyle on April 28, 1946. Bob died in 1996, shortly after they celebrated their golden anniversary.

Virginia is survived by her four children, Steve (Terri) Ruyle of Defiance, Philip (Renee) Ruyle of Whitehouse, Lynne (John) Humkey of Midway, Ky., and Bobbie (Mike) Ruyle Malady of Tempe, Ariz. Her sister, Mary Snyder of Huntington, Ind., survives along with 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Imogene Kaylor.

Virginia was employed by Metropolitan Bank of Lima for many years before relocating to Defiance in 1995. For over 25 years, Virginia was a volunteer with the auxiliary, first at Lima Memorial Hospital and beginning in 1997, with Defiance Regional Hospital. Virginia was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Church Women United and the 13 Club of Defiance.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 28, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services for Virginia will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday, with Rev. Joe Graves officiating. Burial will be beside her sailor at Riverside Cemetery, Veterans' Memorial section.
