LaVern Kuhlman


OTTAWA -- LaVern N. Kuhlman, 74, of Ottawa, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at his residence.

He was born November 17, 1938, in Leipsic, to the late Wilfred "Bill" and Anna Mae (Doepker) Kuhlman. On August 26, 1988, he married Bertha Hoffman. She died June 20, 2011.

Survivors include four stepchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 15 great-stepgrandchildren; siblings, Ron (Marie) Kuhlman of Kalida, Adrian (Pat) Kuhlman of Ayersville, Joanne Schmitz of Glandorf, Steve Kuhlman of Ottawa and Joyce (Jon) Smith of The Woodlands of Texas; five nieces; nine nephews; and his companion, Margie Smith of Deshler.

LaVern retired from General Motors of Defiance in 1996 after 37 years. He attended Leipsic High School. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ottawa, Ottawa Knights of Columbus, Ottawa and Leipsic Eagles, Findlay Moose, and a social member of the Ottawa and Leipsic VFW.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, with Father Matt Jozefiak officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where a K of C rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m.
