KENDALLVILLE, Ind. -- Troas P. Jacoby, 92, of Kendallville, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born in Fremont, Indiana, on April 12, 1921, to Clyde Letts and Maude (Waller) Letts. Mrs. Jacoby graduated from Fremont High School in 1939. She then graduated from Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio, with a bachelor's degree and later earned a master's of science degree from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne.
She married her first husband, Herman Dally Sr., on January 1, 1942, and he preceded her in death on April 12, 1965. She married her second husband, Sanford Jacoby, in the summer of 1967, and he preceded her in death on February 10, 1998.
Mrs. Jacoby was an elementary school teacher and taught in Flordia, Ohio, for 10 years. After that she taught at Kendallville Central School and Northside School in Kendallville for 16 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville. She also belonged to the Kendallville American Legion Auxilary, Kendallville Area Professional BPW, Retired Teachers Association, the Red Hats and the Live and Learn Home Economic Club. She loved knitting, crocheting, playing bingo, playing cards, traveling, being in nature and growing her plants. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include one son, Herman and Judy Dally of Defiance, Ohio; two grandchildren, Ashley and Cory Hornish of Alexandria, Virginia, and Martin and Katherine Dally of Louisville, Kentucky; one sister Lucille Masters of Marshall, Michigan; special cousin, Jane and Joe Mungovan of Fort Wayne, Indiana; one stepdaughter, Patricia Jacoby of Kendallville, Indiana; three stepgrandchildren, Stacy and Mark Hamilton of Avilla, Lonnie and Jan Christian of LaGrange, Indiana, Barbara and Steven Baird of Chicago, Illinois; seven great-stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Herman Dally Sr.; her second husband, Sanford Jacoby; one daughter, Joy Dally; four brothers, Louis, Russell, Wade and Vergil Letts; and one sister, Betty Aberth.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral services will be Friday, May 24, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Defiance, Ohio.
