Merlin Fluckinger


ARCHBOLD -- Merlin J. Fluckinger, 86, of Archbold, passed away Sunday morning, May 12, 2013, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.

He was born February 20, 1927, near Ridgeville Corners, the son of Clifford and Ella (Neuhauser) Fluckinger, and married Nancy Eicher on June 7, 1953. A lifelong resident of the Ridgeville Corners/Archbold area, he owned and operated a poultry business and was a bookkeeper, working at Bil-Jax, Zehr Fertilizer Company and retiring from Dennis Potato Farms. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed traveling, golfing and family time. He served on the original Fairlawn board of directors and later on the resident council board, and sang in the Fairlawn Village Choir. He was a member of Archbold Evangelical Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; five children, Jim (Judy) Flickinger of Wheaton, Ill., John D. Fluckinger of Bryan, Carolyn (John Muffler) Fluckinger of Yonkers, N.Y., Bob (Mary) Flickinger of Bluffton, and Don (Kate Binder) Fluckinger of Nashua, N.H.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Phyllis (Dean) Short of Archbold; and a brother-in-law, Ed Krauss of Swanton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Margaret; and two sisters, Carol Miller and Bernetta Krauss.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Archbold Evangelical Church with Dr. John Muffler and Pastor Jesse Kahler officiating. Interment will precede at 9 a.m. in the Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fairlawn Chapel from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday. Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.

The family suggests that memorials be given to Mennonite Central Committee or the donor's favorite charity.
