Evelyn Miller Gibler, 97, of Defiance, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at GlennPark of Defiance.
She was born January 8, 1916, the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Ann (Burns) Thiel. She was married to Arden Miller, who died in 1965, and resided in Sherwood, Ohio. For many years she was employed at Bill Newman's Drug Store and was a member of the Sherwood Firefighter's Auxiliary. She attended St. Stephen's Catholic Church, where she was a catechism instructor.
Evelyn later moved to Defiance and attended St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she was past president of the Christian Mother's and Altar Rosary Society. She was also president of AARP, Defiance Chapter, 55 plus Club, the Defiance president and state secretary of the Business & Professional Women's Organization. She retired after 18 years at Kuntz Drug Store and six years at River Valley Distributing. In 1981, she married Richard Gibler, who died in 1988.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanne Brown Heidepriem; three sisters and their spouses, Hazel and Ambrose Krutsch, Irma and Ed Schroeder, Florence and Jim Powers; one grandchild, Dennis Brown; and two nephews, Jack and Jim Krutsch.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Miller (Elton) Mobley; son, Jim (Judy) Miller; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, Mary Ellen Seibert and Lois Wahl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church in Defiance. Visitation will be Monday, March 18, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance.
