Mildred 'Tood' Lalonde

Mildred "Tood" E. Lalonde, 89, of Defiance, passed away on March 13, 2013, at GlennPark in Defiance.

She was born on February 27, 1924, to Charles and Leona (Weisz) Baum in Defiance. She attended Ayersville High School and graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1942. On October 9, 1943, she married Joseph Charles Lalonde. Tood and Joe lived and raised their five children in Defiance. Tood was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and St. John's Catholic Church. She enjoyed polka dancing, golf, knitting, playing cards, and excelled at telling jokes and entertaining her friends all over northwest Ohio. She really missed polka dancing with her friends.

Tood was very proud of being six-time club champion at the Auglaize Country Club. She was extremely competitive in all of her endeavors, (and claimed to have never missed a foul shot in basketball). Tood adored her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and was very proud of her children's many accomplishments.

Tood is survived by her loving children, Dr. Joe (Jan) G. Lalonde of Lewis Center, Ohio, Jackie Gerker of Worthington, Ohio, Dr. John Lalonde of Greensboro, N.C., Dr. Jim Lalonde of Defiance, and Tom (Denise) Lalonde Napoleon, Ohio; sister, Vivian Ryan of Defiance; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Leona Baum; husband, Joseph Charles Lalonde; siblings, Edie Denton, John Baum, Marge Feeney and Sadie Ehrat; grandson, Steven Gerker; and special friend, Elmer Sprow.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013, from 2-8 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at noon at Schaffer Funeral Home Inc., with Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery in Defiance.

  • Joe,Jackie,Johnny,Jimmy and Tommy...I loved your Mom so much! She filled in as our Mom every Sept. at our Hesselschwardt family reunion. I wish I could have hugged each of you this week but I am at our Winter home in Florida.
