NAPOLEON -- Luinna "Lu" Burks, 65, of Napoleon, Ohio, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at her residence.
She was born on February 24, 1948, in Pikeville, Ky., to the late Corbin and Ethel (Thacker) Spears. On December 5, 1970, she married Brady Burks, who preceded her in death on February 28, 2012.
Lu worked as a manager at Dollar General, Napoleon, for five years. She previously was a waitress for Trucker's Paradise, Liberty Center, and Lester's Diner, Bryan, for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Holgate, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School and also sang with the Praise Singers at various local nursing homes.
She is survived by children, Teresa (David) Crutchfield of Chiefland, Fla., Corbin (Shelley) Skeens, Michelle Burks and Kellie Burks-Zimmerman, all of Napoleon; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; siblings, Roger (Bea) Spears of Regina, Ky., Ira Spears of Napoleon, Juanita (Keith) Ward of Malinta, Bert (Annis) Spears of Fedscreek, Ky., Vernie (Dallas) Hodge of Napoleon, and Ronnie (Sheila) Spears of Fedscreek, Ky.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Clayton and Tommy Spears.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Holgate. Interment will follow at Hoy Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and Friday from 10-11 a.m. at First Baptist Church.
