Jose "Two Feather" Hernandez, 65, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
He was born on March 4, 1948, to Jose and Maria (Yriarte) Hernandez in Laredo, Texas. He was married to Ana (Alvarado) Hernandez. Jose was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. He retired from GM after 35 years of service and was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Indians, the Ohio State University Buckeyes and NASCAR. He liked Jeff Gordon. In the 1980s, Jose was active with the DAC (Defiance Athletic Club) and was the head boxing trainer. He played softball for Blackies and shot pool 18 years with various pool leagues and had won several championships.
"Two Feather" is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Ana; daughters, Mary Ann Hernandez of Defiance and Teresa Marie "Lisa" Hernandez of Hudson, Mich.; sons, Jose (Linda Lou) Hernandez III of Columbus Grove, Mark Matthew (Tammy) Hernandez of Paulding and Jamie Orlando Hernandez Sr. of Defiance; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Yriarte of Mercedes, Texas, and Juan (Elvia) Rodriguez of Racine, Wis.; sisters, Angie (Eloy) Cedillo of Mercedes, Texas, Irene Quiroga of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Eva (Jessie) Bermea of Weslaco, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Nick Santos Hernandez.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church, with Father Todd Dominique officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Schaffer Funeral Home (Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home), Defiance, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.
