Basil Schliesser

HICKSVILLE -- Basil W. Schliesser, 87, Hicksville, died Friday March 8, 2013, at Hickory Creek at Hicksville.

Basil was born December 15, 1925, the son of the late John O. and Myrtle (Balser) Schliesser in Mark Center, Ohio. He was a 1943 graduate of Hicksville High School and served his country during World War II in the United States Navy from 1943-46.

On September 25, 1948, Basil was united in marriage to Ethelinda Siebenaler. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2008. Basil was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hicksville. He retired from International Harvester, Fort Wayne, after 34 years of employment.

Basil is survived by a daughter, Marian (Ted) Litzenberg of Woodburn, Indiana; two sons, Bernard (Susan) of Bryan, Ohio, and Raymond (Vicki) of Chelias, Washington; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Rogers of Antwerp, Ohio, and Teresa Miller of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and a brother, Paul (Velma) Schliesser of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hicksville, Ohio. Visitation will be Friday from 2-7 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville. Burial will be at Lost Creek Cemetery.
