Marian Elizabeth Smart, 86, formerly of Defiance, Ohio, passed away on February 24, 2013, at the Vanderbilt Adult Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
She was born on May 8, 1926, to Cleo "Pete" and Marvel (Rice) Stambaugh in Continental, Ohio. She attended school at Continental High School for 12 years and Miami of Ohio for four years. On August 28, 1948, she married Harry Eugene Smart. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and its choir, University Women's Club and Defiance Hospital Bazaar. She volunteered at the Defiance Public Library and Defiance College, and was a member of Eastern Star.
Marian is survived by her sons, Pete Smart and Steve Smart, both of Hermitage, Tenn.; grandson, Jonathan Barth of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and grandson, Alexander Jacob Fabian of Lawton, Okla.
She was preceded in death by husband, Harry Eugene Smart; father, Cleo "Pete" Stambaugh; mother, Marvel M. (Rice) Stambaugh; daughters, Cynthia Sue Smart and Cathy Lynn Smart; and brother, Tom Stambaugh.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, Ohio, with Rev. Clarence Dinnen officiating.
