CONTINENTAL -- Helen E. Meeks, 90, of Continental, Ohio, went to her eternal home on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at JTDM Hospital in St. Marys, Ohio.

She had lived the past four years at Otterbein in St. Marys. During the last months, she was able to see all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Darwin) Zeigler of St. Marys, Ohio, and Patricia (Kenneth) Jones of Wauseon, Ohio; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Helen was born on March 19, 1922, to Carl and Alma (Raabe) Snyder in Continental, Ohio. She lived in Continental until 2009. She was a member of Continental United Methodist Church, where she served as church treasurer, trustee for the Continental Community Library, a member of the United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Continental Educational Club, Ohio Child Conservation League and the Shakespeare Club of St. Marys. In her later years, Helen also enjoyed china painting.

Helen graduated from Continental High School and Northwest Business College in Lima, Ohio. She worked for 21 years at H&K Motor Sales in Continental as business manager. Helen had previously worked as private secretary to the vice president of Lima Locomotive Shovel and Crane Division during World War II, a bookkeeper for Minch's and Hitchcock and Turner in Continental, secretary at Unverferth law firm in Ottawa and secretary at Ferrall-Martin Electric in Defiance.

A burial service will be held at the Monroe Cemetery, north of Continental, on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. for family and friends. A celebration of Helen's life will be held following the burial at the Continental United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013, with Pastor Charles Schmunk officiating. Viewing will be at the Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Continental on Friday, February 22, 2013, from 3-7 p.m.

Preferred memorials are to the Continental United Methodist Church, Continental Community Library or Otterbein St. Marys.
