SYLVANIA -- James M. Levison, 70, of Sylvania, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Born in Toledo, the son of Samuel and Gladys Miesel Levison, Jim graduated from Scott High School and received his BS in education from the University of Toledo, later marrying the former Lois Leibovitz, also of Toledo, who survives. He taught in Toledo Public Schools until he began his career in social work at the Lucas County Department of Human Services and the Toledo District Office of the Ohio Department of Welfare, followed by an appointment as the director of the Henry County Job and Family Services in 1984, retiring in 1997. Jim also served on the Henry County board of trustees for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio. He enjoyed playing cards and held memberships in the Congregation B'nai Israel, B'nai Brith and its bowling leagues, the Elks, Old Newsboys and MENSA.
Surviving are his wife, Lois; daughters, Ilana (Shawn) Sullivan of Sun Prairie, Wis., and Allison (Jeff) Bucko of Perrysburg Ohio; grandchildren, Megan and Caitlin Sullivan, Parker and Annabelle Bucko; brother-in-law, Jerry Leibovitz of Houston, Texas; also several cousins.
Services will be held today, January 31, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the Robert H. Wick/Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Road, Toledo, Ohio. Interment will be in Beth Shalom Cemetery. Following services today and also on Friday from noon-3 p.m. and Saturday after 7 p.m., the family will be receiving in the home of Jeff and Allison Bucko.
Memorial tributes are suggested in the form of contributions to the United Way of Henry County, the Parkinson's Foundation NWO or a charity of the donor's choice.
