FOSTORIA -- Gene B. Kammeyer, 80, of Fostoria, Ohio, died Saturday morning, January 12, 2013, at Mercy St. Vincent's Medical Center in Toledo.
He was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Defiance, Ohio, the son of August and Flora (Hurtt) Kammeyer. He first married Virginia Lane on May 2, 1952, in Holgate, she died March 13, 1974. He then married Beverly J. Cooper on July 6, 1974, in Fostoria, and she died Jan. 21, 2007.
Surviving are sons, Rick (Penny) Herbert of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Michael (Vickie) Kammeyer of Fostoria and Steven (Peggy) Kammeyer of Defiance; daughters, Paula Barkley of Lorain, Ohio, and Judith England of Fostoria; brother, Larry Kammeyer of Archbold; sisters, Ethel Retcher, Verona Meine, Barbara Bibler, Francis Brown, Alberta Gilliam and Elsie Olinghouse, all of Defiance, and Georgia Davis of Napoleon; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; sons, Bradley and David Kammeyer and Michael Cooper; daughters, Carolyn and Tracy Kammeyer; brothers, Robert, Richard, Delbert and Harold Kammeyer; and sisters, Margaret Lowery and Leonora Kammeyer.
Gene worked as a Local 55 iron worker since 1953, attended Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria and was a member of Fostoria Eagles and Moose Lodge.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria, Ohio, with Rev. Dr. Larry Knigga officiating. Visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria, and Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery in Fostoria.
