Helen R. Zipfel Steinbrener, 91, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

Helen married Wilber C. Steinbrener on September 30, 1944, and he preceded her in death on June 27, 2005. She was born on January 4, 1921, to Charles and Martha (Kolb) Zipfel in Defiance County.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Janice (Gilbert) Normandin of Trenton, Mich., Joyce (Carl) Westhoven of Defiance, Jill (John) Mack of Defiance, and Joan (Karl) Sill of Sylvania; eight grandchildren, Aaron Normandin, Adam Normandin, Eric (Amanda) Westhoven, Sara (Marty) Schindler, Rachel Mack, Zachary Mack, Elaina Mack and Hanna Sill; and seven great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Lucille Hiler, Edith Ehlinger and Marie Wolff; and brothers, Robert and Roger Zipfel.

Helen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society and St. Mary's prayer chain.

Visitation will be held today, January 2, 2013, from 3-8 p.m. at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Rosary service is at 7:30 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass at the church, starting at 10 a.m.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will take place in Riverview Memory Gardens.
