WAUSEON -- Richard F. Hasselschwert, 86, of Wauseon, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
Prior to his retirement he had been the manager and buyer for the Charles Co. in Wauseon and Napoleon for 45 years.
Mr. Hasselschwert was born on June 8, 1926, in Defiance, Ohio, the son of the late Edward and the late Margaret (Flanigan) Hasselschwert. On August 7, 1948, he married the former Jean Myers and she survives. He was a member of the St. Caspar Catholic Church in Wauseon where he served on the parish council and the finance committee. He was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of the Wauseon Lions Club where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow for Dedicated Humanitarian Services. Mr. Hasselschwert was a member of the Wauseon City Council from 1992-99 and a member of the INTV Board for 18 years. He served on the Civil Service Board for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
Surviving besides his wife, Jean; are six daughters, Beth (Joe) Vanderson of Dublin, Ohio, Brenda (Steve) Case of Archbold, Ohio, Jane (Ray) Kuthy of Iowa City, Iowa, Jan (Stephen) Schroeder of Archbold, Ohio, Judy (Jerry) Turney of Mason, Ohio, and Jennifer (Paul) Ruess, Powell, Ohio. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were brothers, Joseph, Charles and Bernard; and sisters, Ann, Jeanette, Rose and Martha.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday December 15, 2012, at the St. Caspar Catholic Church with Rev. Father David Bruning and Rev. Father Robert Holden officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Caspar Cemetery. Friends may call in the Pope John XXIII room of St. Caspar Catholic Church on Friday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a Knights of Columbus service at 7 p.m.
