FORT MYERS, Fla. -- John "Coach" R. Fritz, 86, of Fort Myers, Florida, and a former longtime resident of northwest Ohio, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012.
John was born to Russell O. and Daisy Mae (Skees) Fritz. He was a 1944 graduate of Farmer High School. He then received his bachelor's degree in education from Defiance College. He was a World War II Army veteran. John married Donna V. Heisler on May 10, 1945, in Edgerton, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on January 4, 2001. John was a high school educator, teaching history, coaching and athletic director until his retirement in 1978. An avid sports fan and horse racing enthusiast, John enjoyed golf, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are his four children, Carol (James Kibler) Method of Fort Myers, Florida, Paulette (Bruce) Kay of Columbus, Ohio, Denise (Gary) Mills of Panora, Iowa, and Jon (Jackie) Fritz of Fort Myers, Florida; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as two brothers, Leighton (Lois) Fritz of Hamilton, Indiana, and Ward (Shirley) Fritz of Bryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; infant daughter, Marcia Ann Fritz; and two brothers, Keith and Duane Fritz.
Graveside services will be held at noon Saturday, December 1, 2012, in Farmer Cemetery, Farmer, Ohio. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio.
