Elmer 'Dean' Rittenhouse

Elmer "Dean" Rittenhouse, 77, of Defiance, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital.

He was born on February 19, 1935, to Noel Sr. and Pauline (Mullinex) Rittenhouse in Defiance, Ohio. He married Barbara Foust on June 15, 1962, and she survives. Also surviving him are his sons, Rod Rittenhouse of Defiance, Kevin (Darlene) Rittenhouse of Defiance and Nathan (Fran) Rittenhouse of Hicksville, Ohio; daughter, Karen (Dave) Degler of Defiance; grandchildren, Elijah (Yuko) Rittenhouse, Cassandra Rittenhouse, Corinna Rittenhouse, Bethany Rittenhouse, Katrina Neuberry, William (Lisa) Sheets, Lacey (Roland) Maxson, Hoshea (Courtney) Rittenhouse; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William "Bill" Rittenhouse of Defiance.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Noel Rittenhouse Jr.; sister, Midge Ruffer; and a daughter-in-law, Connie Rittenhouse.

Dean was a member of North Mt. Zion Church and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a millwright for GM Powertrain, retiring in 2000 after 37 years of service. He loved music and animals, enjoyed visiting with friends, and helping others. He was involved with Friends of Felines.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012, from 1-4 p.m. at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with a memorial service being held at 4 p.m. Rev. Jim Fry will officiate, followed by a meal at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 301 Carter Road, Defiance.
