GLANDORF -- Donald E. Smith, 64, of Glandorf, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2012, at Kindred Hospital, Lima.
He was born March 14, 1948, in
Lima, to the late Edward and Martha Mary (Hoffman) Smith.
Surviving are his special friend, Helen M. Giesey of Gilboa; a sister, Jo Ann Smith of Glandorf; two brothers, Richard (Nancy) Smith of Kalida and Thomas (Joyce) Smith of Glandorf; six nieces and three nephews; and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Don worked at General Motors of Defiance for the last 41 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf. He was a 1966 graduate of Ottawa-Glandorf High School and a 1970 graduate of the University of Dayton School of Engineering. He was a fan of O-G boys basketball and football; a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan; a social member of the VFW and enjoyed helping others farm. Don's family would like to thank Dr. Norman Moser, the nurses at St. Rita's and the staff at Kindred Hospital.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, with Father Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where there will be a parish rosary at 7:45 p.m.
