CONTINENTAL -- Carolyn R. Prowant, 76, of Continental, died at 7:57 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center, surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer.
She was born March 16, 1936, in Continental, to the late Carl E. and Cleo (Rockey) Parrett. On August 7, 1954, she married Donald L. Prowant, who survives in Continental.
Carolyn is also survived by her children, Lynn (Jeffrey) Tegenkamp and Michael B. (Kathy) Prowant, all of Continental; seven grandchildren, Kirt (Keri) Tegenkamp, Todd (Michelle) Tegenkamp, Brooke Tegenkamp, Blair Tegenkamp, Cory (Denae) Prowant, Lindsay (Calvin) Basinger, Kyle Prowant and Marrae Lowe; six great-grandchildren, Hunter Tegenkamp, Bryn Tegenkamp, Kelsi Tegenkamp, Breece Prowant, Breck Prowant and Micalin Basinger; and two sisters, Avis (Frederick) Wright of Macomb, Michigan, and Dorcas Weisenburger of Continental.
She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Weisenburger.
Carolyn retired as a legal secretary for the law firm of Weaner, Zimmerman, Bacon, Yoder and Hubbard in Defiance. She graduated in 1954 from Continental High School. She was a member of North Mt. Zion Church where she served as a clerk for 40 ½ years. She also worked for Home Savings & Loan Association of Defiance for 30 ½ years.
A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at North Mt. Zion Church with Pastor Brent Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
