Frederick 'Fritz' Wichman

Frederick "Fritz" W. Wichman, 87, of Defiance, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

Fred was born in Defiance, Ohio, on July 22, 1925. He was the son of the late Fred H. and Sophia (Bunke) Wichman. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Fred served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II with the 8th Air Force in England. He was a life member of the Defiance VFW, life member of the Eagles, member of the Moose, AMVETS and Brotherhood of Carpenters Union. He was a construction superintendent at Baker-Schindler for 41 years, retiring in 1987. On Jan. 24, 1948, he married Joann Stork, who survives.

Besides his loving wife, Joann, of 64 years, surviving are a son, Phil (Janet) Wichman of Vero Beach, Fla.; daughters, Mary Jo (Terry) Calvin of Defiance and Cheryl (James) Smith of Defiance. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Travis (Edith) Wichman, Nichole Wichman and Kellie (Gene) Cole; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Ted, Alvin and Richard; and four sisters, Emma Smith, Clara Wichman, Luella Hull and Margaret Pracht.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Zion's Lutheran Church, Defiance. Friends are invited to call Friday from 2-8 p.m. at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at Zion's Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.
